Golfing is like Public Speaking

What do you like to do?
What are you really good at?
Were you always good at it?
Did you always like it?
I once hated golf. Why? Because every time I went to hit the ball, I dug up the ground and missed the ball. I never could hit it. But several years later I gave it another try. I had a very good lesson. I did what the instructor said, and I actually hit the ball! Not once, not twice, but many, many times. It was so much fun! I am not real good at, only because I haven't kept it up. I'm too busy biking. But public speaking is just like anything else. If you take lessons to learn the skills, if you follow instruction and do what you learn, and if you keep it up, you will like it, get great at it, and you will keep getting better.

Are You Normal?

Are you normal? I'm not. Those of you who have seen my recent presentation know what I mean by that. I love public speaking! I love presenting in front of groups of people! I love preparing my presentations! However, I used to be normal. I used to have the same feelings and attitude towards public speaking that the majority of our population today have. I was scared, nervous, and not that good at it. But because I took the time to study, learn, and practice public speaking skills, I am much better at it, I make a living at it, and I love it! If you are normal, it's time to fix that. Become the minority and take the advice of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, "whether you like it or not, you need to be good at public speaking if you want to stand out above the rest and be a success."

What Are You Doing to Increase Sales?

What are you doing to increase sales?

Recently my Dad passed away and the last thing he said to my brother, who owns a sign company was, "What are you doing to increase sales?"

He obviously took work very seriously. In the 60's he bought a business and quadrupled the sales. How did he do it? He had excellent communication skills dealing with people and vendors who could buy from him.

When you present in public, excellent communication is a must if you want to increase sales and make an impact. Take the time to learn and develop your public speaking skills and be sure to read lots of great free tips at http://www.jackirose.com/

A picture is worth a billion words

If you work with PowerPoint revise it now! Most likely you have slides with text and lots of it. Most likely you don't have too many pictures or graphics. Maybe you don't have any!

If you want to get your message across effectively...
If you want to keep your audience interested in your presentations...
If you want to keep yourself interested in your presentation....

Then you must use pictures and graphics throughout your entire presentation.

Begin to revise your PowerPoint presentation now. Imagine that your audience cannot read but they can see and understand any picture or graphic that you display. Take one slide at a a time, read it, and ask yourself, "what picture will show/explain this message?"

For example, if you were talking about the whole world, you can have a picture of the globe rather than the word world.
If you were talking about how the planet is suffering from lack of recycling, then show a picture of what it's doing rather than having the text say what it's doing, i.e. trees being cut down.
If you were talking about revenue increases for the company: what does that mean? what results came of that? does it mean more money? Show a picture of dollar bills. If it means more customers, show a picture of customers, if it means happier customers, show a picture of smiley faces.

When it comes to PowerPoint, you must have good public speaking skills to convey the message effectively and correctly to your audience. You are your presentation, not your slides. Your audience wants to hear you, see you, and be kept awake!

Fireworks

July is a time for fireworks, it’s a time of celebration, and it’s a time of enjoying and appreciating all that we have in the USA.

When you have an opportunity to speak in front of others, you have an opportunity to share your knowledge and expertise with others who will benefit from it. That’s a great reason to celebrate and appreciate what you have. When you present, it’s not about you, it’s about your audience. It’s about giving your audience something they can benefit from. It doesn’t matter what the purpose of your presentation is, it’s always about helping the audience. If you are selling a product or a service it’s not about you making a sale; it’s about having that product or service improve the lives of the buyer.

Stop worrying about what the audience thinks of you and focus on helping the audience by sharing your knowledge and expertise. In order to keep their attention and have a great impact on them, be sure to give them some fire works!

Here’s what I mean. Open with a bang, close with a bigger bang, and in the middle have something interesting to say to keep your audience engaged. In other words, have a strong opening to grab their attention, tell some interesting stories that hone your message include vocal variety, body language, and emotion to add excitement and have a strong closing.
