Three Ways to Keep Your Audience Engaged

This may be a very short answer (blog posting) but less is more and these three tips can be extremely effective in keeping your audience engaged in your presentation.

1 - Change it up every 8-10 minutes (i.e. tell a story, ask a question, do something different than straight lecture)
2 - Add pauses (let your info sink in, add emphasis, etc.)
3 - Get your audience involved even if it’s saying “by a show of hands, who has…”

Conference Presenting – walk out again

Other reasons people may be walking out of your session: they got a phone call or text message that they need to take; they are feeling sick or need to use the restroom; you remind them of their ex lover and just can’t look at you. It’s not your fault! Focus on the people who are firmly in their seats and want to hear what you have to say.

Relate to Your Audience

Was out biking today and realized that the bikers wave to the other bikers, dog walkers talk to the other dog walkers, etc. Why? Because they can relate to each other. It is so important for you to be able to relate to your audience so that they will respond to you with ease too.
