Memorizing Speeches
As a child growing up I remember being in the back seat of the car with my parents up front. A song on the radio would come on that I liked and I would start singing along with the music. I knew every word to the song and my parents would say: "Now why can't you memorize your school work like you memorize these songs?"
I never knew the answer until I became a Presentation Skills Expert. I now know why. I actually have two answers.
1 - I never memorized the songs. I just knew them because I would sing them over and over until I knew them.
2 - Songs are stories with a beginning, middle, and end. It's much easier to remember stories than school work!
These two items also apply to public speaking. Don't try to memorize your presentation, instead read it out loud over and over until you just know it. And, add lots of stories, examples, and analogies to your presentations. It will be much easier for you to remember what you want to communicate to your audience.
